i did not know this, but there is a geographic center of the world's population ... the place in the world that is closest, on average, to every person in the world. There is also the antipodal farthest point from everyone on Earth.
The center is somewhere in the Hindu Kush, and the farthest point is somewhere near Easter Island. Interesting, no?
I mean, interesting that the center is right in the middle of one of the most heavily, militarily contested areas throughout human history. Would probably be bloodier if it weren't so high up. And that's also interesting: it's a subrange of the Himalayas, the highest mountain range in the world. So the population center is also in one of the world's highest places.
And, of course, the average farthest point from all humanity is at sea level ... being in the middle of the ocean. I wonder if anyone has ever done any work based on that fact. What does it mean?
